Work done in the environment on a large scale
Southern Cross
Pyramids

This was created in response to people asking how it was like to live in New Zealand. They often wished they could see the Southern Cross constellation. I created the star pattern using straw bales, then covered them in soil and planted grass and New Zealand white clover. Seen from above it resembles the constellation. Seen from the ground it poses a confrontation to the viewer as you hike up the hill and the forms rise up before you.

Location: near Moscow, Idaho

Circle Studies:
Wood, Gravel, Snow

This work was inspired by the Viking fortification known as Trelleborg in Denmark. It was a circular construction with four gateways that aligned with the cardinal compas points. A total of four fortifications have been found and archaeologists now believed they were used to house soldiers to quell uprisings when the king of Denmark, Harald Bluetooth, converted his kingdom to Christianity.

The artist experimented with three different materials. Evidence was later found that people and animals were drawn to the center of each construct.

The circle divided by a cross is a common theme in many cultures and often represents
the Earth. Location: Moscow, Idaho.
